South Bend Bulk Petroleum Storage & Distribution
The former bulk petroleum and distribution facility on the west side of South Bend, Indiana is a prime example how SESCO’s experience, approach and funding solutions all have one purpose in mind: the client’s best interest.
Experience
SESCO’s experience with complex projects is why this heavily contaminated facility has an estimated closure date as soon as the year 2012 or even 2011. It resides in a highly industrialized area with multiple sources of contamination. The site’s soil and groundwater were both extremely polluted with petroleum hydrocarbons.
The site operated as a storage and distribution plant since before 1917 until 2002. The site contained both above ground storage tanks (ASTs) and underground storage tanks (USTs).
SESCO investigated the site from 2004 to 2006. Remediation began in 2006 and ended in 2009. SESCO is now in the post-remediation monitoring stage.
SESCO’s Approach
SESCO’s approach allows businesses to focus on their core operations and property transactions while we evaluate and solve their environmental concerns. SESCO’s remediation at this site did not hinder any sales of the facility. The owner, Dennis Rensberger, was able to sell three of his four buildings and is currently renting out the fourth building.
Funding Solutions
Through SESCO’s funding solutions using third-party dollars, Mr. Rensberger was relieved to know his site would be cleaned up with very little cost to him. He saved over $1,000,000! These costs were covered by using historical comprehensive general liability (CGL) insurance policies (your typical “slip and fall” coverage).
“I was so impressed with SESCO, I went to work for them!”
- Dennis Rensberger, owner of former bulk facility & SESCO Account Executive
